We had a great day today. I had some nice folks who braved the rain in the morning and it really paid off. We had 10 people and caught 10 fish, 9 of them were 37-42 inches! Jessie of Hampstead, MD wound in a 38 and 39-inch doubleheader on the OUTSIDE planer board line, which means he did a lot of winding!

We had a hell of a storm go through Sunday night. According to the observations at the research pier at Solomons we had gusts over 50 knots which means close to 60 mph. There was a foot and a half of water over the road at the Tiki Bar. Things have settled down now, though. We lost Monday’s trips to the weather and we don’t fish again until Friday so I will see you then.

The fish were breaking the surface and popping bait fish into the air! We released a bunch of undersized fish at first. We then went looking down toward Point No Point Lighthouse. I saw some birds and it just looked like the real deal. I put the lines out and sure enough, it was. We put out 5 lines and all went down with almost all keepers. The guys were ready to roll so up the Bay we went. I polished the the aluminum and scrubbed the boat down. We have a few days off now so I’ll try to update Saturday evening if I can avoid the Tiki Bar on my way home!

May 5, 2008Fishing was great all week. I had 12 of Charles County’s finest on the boat Wednesday and we caught 12 big fish. We had limits on two trips Friday. Saturday we caught a limit and 14-year-old Tommy Cook of Reisterstown, MD caught a 41-pound 46-inch monster. Too bad we weren’t in the tournament! When I find the USB cable for my camera I will put the picture up on the site. Sunday was considerably slower. I think the fish finally succumbed to the relentless pressure of the three-day fishing tournaments going on over the weekend. We still managed to catch six nice fish with eight guys.

I have heard lots of good reports of croaker in shallow water. A little more warm weather should push them to their summer spots. I’m feeling like it’s going to be a great year for croaker.

See you soon!
