The fish were jumping on the boat this morning. Well, maybe the big waves were just washing them into the boat… Anyway, fishing was good despite some lousy weather. One of the fish was in the 30-pound range. I could see bait and fish all over the fish finder and they were hungry!
It was a rude welcome back to fishing season on Saturday. Thirty-knot plus winds and heavy thunderstorms raked the bay, whipping seas to seven feet plus. I lost both trips on Saturday, but managed to get out Sunday afternoon. The weather was great and the fishing was decent. We caught five nice big fish. I’m sure fishing would have been much better had it not been for a crazy tide. The hard southeast winds of Friday and Saturday pushed tons of water up in the bay and on Sunday, aided by westerly winds, the water attempted to recede, but was confronted by the incoming astronomical tide, making for a lousy fishing tide. Under such conditions, I was glad we had the five fish.
