Long time, no report. Fishing is still good. There are scads of bluefish everywhere! We caught 40 or so today in the 3-6 pound range, plus another 20 in the 1-pound range. Rock are still hit-and-miss, though we caught a limit yesterday. Blues should be around until the first week of November, and the rockfish should become more plentiful as October comes on.

I have donated a trip to the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Studies (where mate Dave works when he’s not fishing), specifically to Adam Peer who is conducting striped bass research. They will be raffling off the trip at PRAD, (Patuxent River Appreciation Days) which will be held in Solomons October 10th and 11th. If I had any computer sense, I’d put the link on here, but I’ll just tell you to google PRAD, and it comes up in the search. Also, I’ll post some information on how to get in touch with Adam if you can’t make it to PRAD and want to buy some tickets. It’s a great cause. The gang at UMCES works very hard to promote environmental awareness and stewardship. They have taught me quite a bit about it over the past couple of years. If we don’t take care of the Bay, we won’t have any fish to catch!

Fall trophy rockfish season is coming on soon. The big migratory rockfish are probably just beginning their journey back from New England, New York, New Jersey, etc. They usually arrive in good numbers by the second week in November. I can’t wait to pop that first rubber band on the planer boards!

See you soon.
