Live-line fishing remains RED HOT! Live-line fishing is as good as it gets. We’ve been catching fish up to 34 inches on light tackle. This usually holds up through the summer.

Croaker fishing is decent when the weather allows, which has not been the case as of late. We got caught in some crazy thunderstorms Sunday and Monday nights. Sunday night we managed to catch a nice mess of fat medium croakers before the storm chased us away, but Monday night the storm killed the fishing right when the fish started to bite. I’ll try to get some good croaker pics on here this week.

I want to tell you that when you’re down here I have a couple of new spots for you to try. Calypso Bay at the marina has done a great job of cleaning the place up and making it nice. They have some great happy hour specials and they give charterboat customers 10% off! I have eaten some appetizers there a couple of times and they have been great. Also, next to the Solomons Food Lion is Spyro’s Bagels. It’s an independent shop owned and operated by a Greek couple from New York. They open at 6 am. They have great breakfast and lunch sandwiches. My favorites are sausage, egg and cheese on whole wheat bagel and turkey and Swiss on whole wheat bagel. Give them a try!

The spot showed up this week and so did the live-line fishing. We caught some beautiful (low 30-inch range) rockfish on light tackle. It has been a blast! With the exception of one large group we have been catching our limit each trip.

Croaker fishing remains excellent, but we still haven’t seen too many jumbos. We have been catching 20-25 per person over the past week.

Book a full-day charter and take advantage of both of these great fisheries in the same trip!

Fishing was good this week. The hot weather and calm winds have finally brought us some good croaker fishing. The water temperature shot up into the high 70’s and the croaker seemed to like it. We had close to our limit on Sunday night.

There were plenty of rockfish around as well. We caught our limit trolling twice and chumming twice. We had to go all the way to the Point Lookout area to find fish willing to go for chum but it worked out.

Just night fishing this weekend. Croaker fishing was pretty darn good on Saturday night. We had a wild thunderstorm which tore off some pretty big limbs and moved some small sailboats here in Solomons. After it passed, however, the wind laid down and it got beautiful. The fish were in a biting mood. Sunday we had more thunder and evidently it was enough to kill the fishing because they didn’t bite. We made a comeback Monday and caught one rockfish for everyone and croaker fishing was fair with some big ones mixed in.
